Guaranteeing favourable investment climate is an issue of strategic importance in Ukraine. For the last years Ukraine has made many successful steps towards its integration into the global economic community. First of all, Europe and the US acknowledged the market status of the Ukrainian economy. Agreements for cooperation and economic security were sealed with many countries all over the world.
Today, the law protects and stimulates investment activity in the country, including state guarantees for the investments and compensation for the investor's losses due to action or inaction of the Ukrainian officials.

The establishment of the Ukrainian diaspora in Bulgaria is to be related to the renowned Ukrainian scientist Mihaylo (Mihail) Dragomanov, who arrived in Bulgaria in 1889 to teach Newest History in the Sofia University.
The next wave of Ukrainians came into Bulgaria after the 1917 Revolution in Russia and the Civil war in Ukraine. These Ukrainians created cultural centers named "Ukrainian Community" all over Bulgaria.
The third wave of Ukrainians arrived in Bulgaria during the period of communism and it can be defined as a "marriage wave", as marriage was the main reason for these arrivals.
Today, the care for the Ukrainian diaspora is taken mainly by the Embassy of Ukraine in Sofia.

Today the ethnical Bulgarians who live in Ukraine are the biggest Bulgarian community out of the confines of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian diaspora is the most numerous in Ukraine; these Bulgarians live compactly and have preserved their national identity. According to data from 2001 the Bulgarians in Ukraine are 204 600.
Thanks to patriotic Bulgarians there are many associations and communities in Ukraine created to preserve the culture of the Bulgarians. There are schools where children can study Bulgarian; there are television and radio broadcasts in Bulgarian, as well as newspapers in Bulgarian.

Mihaylo Petrovich Dragomanov (1841-1895) was a representative of the Liberal and Democratic circles in culture, science and social development in the second half of XIX century. He was well known as historian, philosopher, linguist, Slavic folklore researcher, publicist and a public figure. As a professor in the Bulgarian Sofia University "Saint Kliment Ohridski" he was the founder and the head of the General History Department in the Faculty of History and Philology.

In the time when Bulgaria was under the rule of the Ottoman empire Bulgarians needed an institution to provide higher and better education for the intelligent young people who would later lead the national Renaissance. Such a school was established in the lands where Bulgarians lived in freedom - the region of Besarabia, today in Ukraine. The city of Bolgrad was then the hub of Bulgarian emigrants and the first Bulgarian high school was built there.
Today the school is still very prestigious, among the 100 best high schools in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Sunday School in Sofia was created as part of Mother Ukraine Foundation in 2002. At the beginning the students were Ukrainians living in Sofia, who wanted to restore their knowledge in Ukrainian - from kids to retired people. Later Bulgarians joined the course, too, which created the need to teach Ukrainian also as a foreign language. The course in Ukrainian is free.

With its lavish natural resources, unique landscapes, climate and geographical position Ukraine has the perfect conditions for the development of green and village tourism.
One of the best destinations for green tourism is the Crimean Peninsula. Although it is 20 times smaller than the Balkan Peninsula it is very famous for the peculiarities in its flora and fauna. It is almost separated from the continent and this is the reason why its climate and nature are so specific.

The city of Lvov has had different names over the centuries (Leopolis, Leontopolis, Levenburg, Lvuv) but all of them come from the Slavic word for lion - ‘lev'. In fact, Danil Galitski named the city after his son Lev.
The city has been the center of regions and kingdoms. Nowadays castles, beautiful churches, fountains and statues are worth seeing. It is one of the host cities of European Football Championship 2012 and the newly built stadium in the city will seat 33 000 fans.

The archipelago of the Cyclades in Greece has numerous faces. One of them - Tinos Island, is famous for its marble craftsmen and for its whitewashed lace-like pigeon houses as big as real houses. The fine bronze works of the artist Igor Grechanik enchant with their magical harmony. The bid of the sculptor to understand the origins and reason of mankind makes him go deep in mythology and esoteric cults with images like Venera, Lada, Inana, Eve…
In 2006-2010 the works of Grechanik were included in the catalogues of the world's best contemporary artists. He organized individual exhibitions in New York, Paris and Kiev.

Decorative painting is among the brightest pages of the Ukrainian culture. This kind of expression of the folklore art originates in mural painting which was widely spread in Ukraine's villages in ancient times, in particular in the region of Dnepropetrovsk, Podillya and Bukovina. This art is full of light and usually people painted what they saw around them - sunflowers, rowan and flowers.

Ukraine's Christmas Eve and Christmas traditions are rich and well preserved until today. Since the Ukrainian Church uses the Julian calendar, Christmas Eve is celebrated on 6th January and Christmas - on 7th January. That is why Ukrainians celebrate the New Year before Christmas.

200 years since the birth of Saint Dimitra of Kiev (of Dorostol) are celebrated in 2010. Born in 1810 in the Bulgarian city of Silistra (the old name of which is Dorostol), the Bulgarian woman Dimitra was canonized by the Ukrainian Church in 2008 because of her life devoted to the poor and homeless in that country. She was named among the saints protectors of Kiev.

Ukraine along with Poland will host the European Football Championship in 2012. The host cities for the football matches in Ukraine will be Kiev, Donetsk, Lvov and Harkov. New modern stadiums are being built specially for the championship. In order not to cause confusion to the foreign fans that will travel around the country, the country invests money in the improvement of the foreign language knowledge of the police and people working in tourist service. A lot of reference books and guides will be published in the main European languages, too.
